5 Reasons Why Your New Company Website is Not Appearing in Google Search Results

If your new website has just gone live, you want people to be able to find it as soon as possible, but there are a lot of websites on the internet and a lot of competition for searchers attention so your website may not appear for you at first. In this article I will try to explain some of the reasons why your website might not be appearing for you or your customers when you search for it, and also give you some tips on what to do about it.

Is Your New Website Using a New Domain?

If your new website is using a new domain that has no history with Google, then it will take longer for you to appear in search results as Google needs time to crawl and index your site and also see how popular and high quality your content is.

Why This Happens:

  • Crawling: Google’s bots (or “spiders”) scan the internet to find new websites. If your domain is new, it might take a while before the bots discover it.
  • Indexing: Once crawled, Google evaluates your content for quality and relevance before adding it to its index and this can take some time, especially if you have a lot of pages.

Go live checklist for a new domain:

  1. Check website speed in the target location (USA / EU) using this website: https://gtmetrix.com/
  2. Check the functionality of each page of the website on both desktop and mobile devices
  3. Ask if Google Analytics and Google Search Console have been installed and make sure you can view the data in Google Analytics by providing your email. Analytics tracks traffic to your website and Search Console tracks search terms and indexing.
  4. Make sure that you retrieve the login for your domain and change the password after go live, this should NOT be kept by the website company.
  5. Ask for an indexing report 2 weeks after the site has gone live so that you can check if Google is indexing the site properly.
  6. Make sure that daily backups of the website are being carried out so that the website can be rapidly recovered if there is an issue. It should take no more than 30 minutes to recover a website.
  7. Test the inquiry form to make sure that you are receiving the emails directly
  8. Make sure that their are no links to other websites hidden at the bottom of your website page except the design companies own website. This is bad for SEO and also dishonest so if you see other links ask for them to be removed.
  9. Check how often you will receive reports on the website performance and make sure that the reports include direct screenshots from Google Analytics and Search Console, do not accept spreadsheets of data made up by the marketing company.
  10. Make sure that you have set up your Google Business listing correctly and that the address at the bottom of your website goes to your google maps location.
